High ResolutionHappy birthday to Nina xD
Wow OK. Do you know why that fan art says “Happy Birthday” on it? Because it was made by the artist as a birthday gift for their friend.
“Happy Birthday Conagona”
It’s really fucking rude to the artist and the person it was originally intended for to edit art that was a gift for someone and pass it off as a gift for your own friend. Crediting doesn’t mean jack shit in this scenario, but: source.
You just didn’t understand that the point of the image isn’t the gift, it’s a joke. We saw that two images a year ago and made an inside joke about the “Nobody loves you” cake relation to the Kingdom Hearts birthday image.
If it was just a birthday gift I could have chosen any other image, but I used that one because the point is not the gift, is the joke =3
Or is it wrong to make a joke using someone else’s art? If you think that I tried to claim that image as mine that’s not my problem, you’re the one who didn’t understand. You are the one not understanding the point.
The art, yes, is not yours. The art was made by the artist as a gift for someone. It is not just some image that painted itself into existence and you don’t have the right to use it simply because it exists.
Even if you did not intend to use it as a gift for your friend’s birthday (despite saying happy birthday to her right there), you still edited the artwork when it was a gift for the artist’s friend.
Intended as a “joke” or not, that is still really rude to the artist and their friend to use it for anything because you completely disregarded the feelings of the artist, their friend, and all the hard work that went into that image created specifically for one person to show how much the artist appreciated them as a friend.
Have some respect for the people involved with the artwork next time because yes, what you did was wrong.

The First Assassin of Tamriel- By Geoffrey

… So hey guys this shouldn’t be allowed in the contest since it’s just edited from another artwork with no discernible owner?

queen-of-nerdvana asked: You do realize of course that the reason I didn't mention the artist's name is because it's already signed on the image, right? I would have mentioned it otherwise. Don't be such a jackass.
How is saying “credit the art you post” in a simple, impartial manner, copy and pasted from all the other posts I’ve reblogged, along with links to help people find sources themselves, being a jackass? That wasn’t my intention.
Even if the artist’s signature is on the image, you do not have the artist’s permission to repost the image simply by its existence in the first place; crediting the artist with a proper link back to their page is the least bit of respect you can give them in that situation.
They are not always legible, English, or guaranteed accurate signatures either. People change accounts all the time and several artists whose work people repost/edit/use are Japanese and sign their work in their native language. It’s good practice and common courtesy to properly credit the artist. You wouldn’t have fan art without them.
